罗伯特·瑞斯本·威尔逊 (1914 - 2000)，美国物理学家，被誉为质子治疗之父。1946 年首次提出将高速质子束用于治疗患者。1947 年加入康奈尔物理学院，设计并主导了多个粒子加速器与临床应用技术的研发、优化。在他的影响下，首例患者于 1954 年接受质子治疗。 1967-1978 年间，他担任美国伊利诺伊州费米实验室第一任主任，带领团队建造了周长为 4 英里的 400MeV 临床医学专用加速器。 该雕塑由广州泰和肿瘤医院放疗科及质子治疗中心全体成员捐赠。

Robert Rathbun Wilson (1914 - 2000) was an American physicist known as the Father of Proton Therapy. In 1946, he first proposed using high-speed proton beams for patient treatment. The following year, he joined Cornell University's Physics Department, where he designed and led the development and optimization of multiple particle accelerators and clinical application technologies. Under his influence, the first patient received proton therapy in 1954. From 1967 to 1978, he served as the first director of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois, USA. There, he led a team in building a 400MeV (Mega electron-volt) clinical medical accelerator with a circumference of four miles. This sculpture was donated by all members of the Radiation Oncology Department and Proton Therapy Center at Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center.
