Lin Qiaozhi (1901 – 1983) was a pioneer and founder of obstetrics and gynecology in China. She was the first Chinese director of obstetrics and gynecology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and the only female member of the inaugural Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Lin initially focused on researching fetal respiration, extensively exploring the occurrence and development patterns of trophoblastic tumors, as well as the occurrence and treatment of female pelvic tuberculosis. She conducted numerous popular science campaigns and worked in maternal and child health care. In order to reduce the infant mortality rate in China and prevent and treat cervical cancer in women, she authored popular science books on maternal and child health, such as "Family Health Advisor." Dr. Lin also created a medical method for trans-umbilical vein exchange transfusion to treat neonatal hemolysis, and established sub-specialties in obstetrics and gynecology, gynecologic tumors, reproductive endocrinology, and family planning. Although she remained unmarried throughout her life, Dr. Lin delivered over 50,000 babies and earned the nickname "Mother of Ten Thousand Infants." It is said that Dr. Yuan Longping, known as the "Father of Hybrid Rice," was also born with her assistance. This sculpture was donated by Dr. Wang Xiaodong, a foreign academician of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also the Director and Investigator of the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing, and the founder of BeiGene (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
